Hazel I. Jackson Middle School students embarked on a journey of self-discovery and emotional growth, thanks to the efforts of our mentors and volunteers from local community organizations. Students are laying the groundwork for exciting opportunities next year and beyond the classroom!
With a focus on enhancing emotional intelligence through self-awareness and regulation, students were provided with leather-bound journals courtesy of Bright Side Opportunities Center, igniting their creativity.
The RULER lessons infused throughout the day fostered invaluable skills in our students, empowering them to navigate their emotions with confidence and empathy. We're grateful to the Bench Mark Program for sharing their resources and opening doors to after-school and summer opportunities.
Seventh-grader Victor B. summed up the day perfectly: "The best part of the day was learning that the teachers were all connected to us because they experienced the same stuff we do growing up. I think the message I found most helpful was hearing that the most important thing is to be yourself because everyone just wants to try and fit in. I noticed that after we had the day a lot more of the boys have been getting along with each other in school.” ... See MoreSee Less
